Dog Refuses To Leave Downed Soldier
Sergeant Hayes and his K9, Atlas, were more than partners. Hayes had raised Atlas from his first days in training.
They slept near each other on missions, cleared buildings together, and when Hayes gave a command,
Atlas trusted him without hesitation. Then one patrol turned into an ambush.
Hayes was hit while trying to get his unit out of a narrow alley. He fell against the wall, barely able to move, as the rest of his platoon was forced back by gunfire.
